The India Meteorological Department (IMD) projected rain in Odisha until December 21, with severe rains in some regions on December 20.
According to the IMD, rain-bearing clouds are expected to blanket the whole state, resulting in rain in most places. The department has also projected a reduction in temperature, with the minimum expected to fall by 3-4°C.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for numerous districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Kendrapara, where heavy rainfall is expected.
According to IMD’s estimate, the night temperature would rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius over the next 24 hours before dropping by 3-4 degrees Celsius by December 21.
The IMD’s regional centre in Bhubaneswar has recommended residents to take precautions and stay indoors amid heavy rains.
According to the IMD forecast, significant rain is expected in the Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Kendrapara districts on December 20.
Rainfall is expected in most parts of the state, with the risk of severe rain in Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Kendrapara, and Jagatsinghpur.
According to the IMD, night temperatures in Odisha have increased while day temperatures have decreased in the last 24 hours. Rourkela’s night temperature jumped from 5.7 to 7.2 degrees Celsius. Similarly, in Jharsuguda, the nighttime temperature rose from 8.2 to 8.6 degrees Celsius.
In Phulbani, the nighttime temperature increased significantly from 7.5 to 10 degrees Celsius. In Keonjhar, the night temperature went from 8.9 degrees Celsius to 11.2 degrees Celsius, while in Angul, it jumped from 9 to 11 degrees Celsius.
According to the IMD, nighttime temperatures have risen in nearly every section of the state, resulting in fewer cold wave situations.
