Stock Market Highlights, Tuesday, Decemer 24, 2024: The benchmark equity indices, the BSE Sensex and the NSE Nifty50, closed flat on Tuesday. After reaching a high of 78,877.36, the 30-share Sensex fell 67.30 points, or 0.09 percent, to close at 78,472.87.
The NSE Nifty50 closed at 23,727.65, down just 25.80 points or 0.11 percent from the previous closing. Today, the index fluctuated between 23,867.65 and 23,709.65 points.
Notably, the stock exchanges will remain closed tomorrow, December 25, 2024, due to Christmas festivities.
Small-cap stocks outperformed the larger market, with the Nifty Smallcap100 ending 0.24 percent higher.
The Nifty Midcap 100 index, on the other hand, closed down 0.06 percent.
28 of the 50 constituent stocks of the Nifty50 fell, led by Power Grid Corporation, JSW Steel, SBI Life, Titan, and Infosys, which fell 1.68 percent. Tata Motors, Adani Enterprises, Eicher Motors, BPCL, and Nestle India were among the 22 Nifty50 component stocks that closed higher, with gains of up to 1.79 percent.
Only the Nifty FMCG, Auto, and OMC indices ended higher, with gains of up to 0.57 percent, while the Nifty Private Bank and Healthcare indexes were flat with modest gains. Other sectoral indices closed in negative territory on Tuesday, with losses ranging up to 0.83 percent.
