Stock Market Highlights, Stock Market Today, March 5, 2025: The benchmark equity indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50 showed a robust recovery and settled up by more than 1% each on Wednesday. After reaching a high of 73,933.80, the 30-share Sensex finished at 73,730.23, up 740.30 points or 1.01% from the previous level.
The NSE Nifty50, on the other hand, closed at 22,337.30, up 254.65 points or 1.15 percent, snapping a 10-day losing trend. On Wednesday, the index traded between 22,394.90 and 22,067.80. Notably, the Nifty50 index has down 3.8 percent, or 877 points, in the previous ten trading sessions through Tuesday.
Bulls dominated Dalal Street, with 46 of the Nifty50’s 50 member companies closing in the green, driven by gains of up to 5.15 percent in Adani Ports, Tata Steel, Adani Enterprises, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Power Grid Corporation. Bajaj Finance, Indian Bank, HDFC Bank, and Shriram Finance were among the Nifty50 constituent stocks that closed down by up to 3.37 percent on Wednesday.
Broader indexes followed the benchmarks, with small-cap shares leading the charge, with the Nifty Smallcap100 index closing up 2.96 percent. The Nifty Midcap100 index also ended in positive territory, up 2.42 percent.
All major indices on the NSE closed higher, topped by the Nifty Metal index, which rose 4.04 percent. This was followed by the Nifty PSU Bank and Media indices, which both finished up by more over 3%. The Nifty IT, Auto, Oil & Gas, and Realty indices all rose by more than 2% on Wednesday.
