Jaat Box Office Collection Day 1: Sunny Deol earned the biggest hit of his 40-year career with 2023’s Gadar 2, and he quickly signed on to a number of projects, including Jaat, Border 2, and Lahore 1947. Jaat, the first film in the series, has hit theaters, and it does not appear to be following in the footsteps of Gadar 2. The sequel to the 2001 smash Gadar grossed over Rs 40 crore on its opening day. Jaat earned Rs 9.5 crore nett in India on its first day, according to Sacnilk.
Jaat was released on Thursday, which was Mahavir Jayanti, a national holiday in many regions of northern India. The movie had a 14 percent occupancy.
In the Delhi-NCR region, the film shows 1472 times and got a 19% occupancy rate. In the Mumbai area, the film had around 984 showings with an 11 percent occupancy rate.
The biggest Hindi film of the year so far has been Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava, which grossed Rs 31 crore on its opening day. The following two positions are taken by Salman Khan’s Sikandar and Akshay Kumar’s Sky Force. Sikandar got roughly Rs 26 crore, while Sky Force made just over Rs 12 crore. Sikandar bombed at the box office, and trade analysts suspected Sky Force of fiddling with the data. Jaat is now the year’s fourth-biggest opener, after only Shahid Kapoor’s Deva, which grossed Rs 5.5 crore on its first day.
Jaat’s collections might appear minor in comparison to Gadar 2, but are far better than any of Sunny’s other recent films. Sunny had a string of flops for 22 years between Gadar and Gadar 2, with some films like the Yamla Pagla Deewana franchise and Apne doing marginally well. Both these films also starred Bobby Deol and Dharmendra.
Sunny, and the business, are betting big on his popularity because he has some major projects coming up. Border 2, the sequel to his 1997 hit Border, will star Diljit Dosanjh and Varun Dhawan, among others, and is set to release in 2026. He recently confirmed that the film will be set around 1971. The first film was similarly set during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan War.
Sunny will also return with filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi for the Aamir Khan-produced film Lahore 1947. Sunny and Rajkmar worked together on films such as Ghayal, Ghatak, and Damini. They split up during the production of their rival Bhagat Singh flicks in the early 2000s and haven’t collaborated since.
