Stock Market Close Highlights, Tuesday, May 27, 2025: Following a volatile session, the benchmark Indian equity indices fell on Tuesday on mixed global cues and profit booking.
After falling to an intraday low of 81,121.70, the Sensex recovered to close at 81,551.63, down 624.82 points or 0.76 percent. The NSE Nifty50 also closed down 175.95 points, or 0.7%, at 24,826.20.
However, broader markets outperformed the top indices, with the Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 closing with gains of 0.15 and 0.10 percent, respectively.
On the sectors front, all main indices closed lower, with Nifty Auto, Bank, IT, FMCG, Financial Services, Metal, Consumer Durables, and Oil & Gas falling by up to 0.88 percent. Nifty PSU Bank, Realty, and Pharma gained 0.26 percent, 0.24 percent, and 0.11 percent, respectively.
Out of the 30 Sensex constituents, 24 closed lower, with Ultratech Cement, ITC, Tata Motors, Axis Bank, NTPC, and Mahindra & Mahindra all down more than 1%. IndusInd Bank, Sun Pharma, Adani Ports, Nestle India, Bharti Airtel, and SBI all increased by more than 2%.
Meanwhile, the fear index (India VIX), which assesses the volatility in the markets, finished up 2.86 percent at 18.54 points.
