Stock market highlights today, Tuesday, June 24, 2025: The benchmark Indian equity indices, the BSE Sensex and the Nifty50, lost early gains but recovered on Tuesday. Notably, the benchmarks rose more than 1% in early trading but failed to maintain higher levels following allegations of a breakdown in the Iran-Israel truce, only hours after it was agreed upon.
After reaching an intraday high of 83,018.16, the BSE Sensex closed at 82,055.11, up 158.32 points, or 0.19 percent.
Similarly, the NSE Nifty50 closed at 25,044.35, up 72.45 points, or 0.29 percent. On Tuesday, the 50-share index traded between $25,317.70 and $24,999.70.
Adani Ports, Jio Financial Services, Shriram Finance, Grasim Industries, and Tata Steel were the top gainers among the Nifty50 index, with gains of up to 2.89 per cent. Conversely, the top laggards among the Nifty50 constituents included ONGC, IndusInd Bank, Power Grid Corp, Trent, and HCL Tech, which fell by up to 2.90 per cent on Tuesday.
Among the broader markets, the Nifty Midcap100 and Smallcap100 indices closed up 0.71 percent and 0.72 percent, respectively.
Except for the Nifty Oil & Gas and Media indices, all other sectors indices closed higher, led by the Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Metal indices, which rose 1.46 percent and 1.01 percent, respectively.
Meanwhile, the India VIX index, which measures market volatility, closed 2.88 percent lower at 13.64 points.
The day finished in favor of the bulls, with 1,966 out of 2,976 traded equities finishing higher, 917 down, and 93 unchanged.
