Stock market highlights today, Thursday, June 26, 2025: Bulls roared on Dalal Street as the major Indian equity indices, the BSE Sensex and the NSE Nifty, resumed their northward march, closing with gains of more than 1% each on Thursday, June 26.
The BSE Sensex rose 1,000.36 points, or 1.21%, to settle at 83,755.87. The index traded between 83,812.09 and 82,816.26 during the day.
Similarly, the NSE Nifty50 finished at 25,549.00, up 304.25 points, or 1.21 percent. The index reached a daily high of 25,565.30 and an intraday low of 25,259.90. Shriram Finance, Jio Financial Services, Tata Steel, Bharti Airtel, and Hindalco Industries were the top gainers among Nifty50 constituents, rising in the range of 2.48 to 3.69 per cent. Conversely, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Tech Mahindra, Wipro, State Bank of India (SBI), and Hero MotoCorp were the top laggards, ending lower in the range of 0.45 to 1.31 per cent.
Meanwhile, index heavyweight Reliance Industries closed up 1.91 percent. Today, Mukesh Ambani’s company recaptured its ₹20 trillion market capitalization for the first time since September 27, 2024. On the NSE, RIL had a market capitalization of ₹20,23,510.63 crore at the end.
Among the broader markets, the Nifty Midcap100 and Nifty Smallcap100 indices fell 0.59 percent and 0.42 percent, respectively.
In the sectoral arena, the Bank Nifty rose 1.13 percent to an intra-day high of 57,263.45, before closing at 57,206.70, up 1.03 percent.
Barring Nifty Realty, IT, and Media, all other sectoral indices on the NSE ended with gains, with the Nifty Metal index outperforming others by settling 2.31 per cent higher. This was followed by Nifty Private Bank, Financial Services, and Oil & Gas indices, which ended higher by over 1 per cent each.
The market breadth remained strong, with 1,474 out of 2,975 traded equities on the NSE closing higher, 1,397 down, and 104 unchanged. There were 69 stocks that reached their 52-week highs, while 22 stocks fell to their 52-week lows. On Thursday, the NSE saw 77 stocks reach their upper circuit limits and 58 touch their lower circuit limits.
The fear index (India VIX), which measures market volatility, fell 2.87 percent to settle at 12.59 points.
