Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation and the global Indian community in the 123rd episode of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat on Sunday. In his address, he touched upon key themes including health, yoga, and religious pilgrimages, and also urged citizens to remember the sacrifices made during the Emergency period, calling it a “tough time for India.”
Speaking on the significance of religious pilgrimages, the Prime Minister said, “When someone embarks on a pilgrimage, the first feeling that comes to mind is, ‘Chalo Bulawa Aaya Hai…’ — Let’s proceed amid the Divine Call. This very feeling is the soul of our religious pilgrimages.”
He emphasized that pilgrimages are more than just spiritual journeys. “They are a means of disciplining the body, purifying the mind, promoting mutual love and brotherhood, and connecting with God,” he said. PM Modi also highlighted the spirit of service that defines these pilgrimages, noting that in many cases, more people serve the pilgrims than those undertaking the journey themselves.
“Bhandaaras and langars — free food distribution — are organized at various places. People set up drinking water stalls on roadsides, while medical camps and other facilities are arranged with a spirit of service. Many also provide accommodation for pilgrims at their own expense,” he noted.
The Prime Minister also mentioned the auspicious restart of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, calling Kailash Mansarovar “the abode of Lord Shiva” and a sacred site revered in Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain traditions.
He further spoke about the upcoming
Amarnath Yatra scheduled to begin on July 3 and the approaching holy month of Sawan- Reflecting on recent religious events, he recalled the celebration of the
Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath ji , which saw participation from lakhs of devotees across states including
Odisha and Gujarat
“From North to South, East to West, these Yatras are a reflection of the spirit of Ek Bharat-Shreshtha Bharat,” PM Modi remarked, emphasizing the unity and cultural vibrancy these events represent. “When we conclude our religious journey with devotion, complete dedication, and complete discipline, we are also rewarded with its spiritual fruits.”
He extended his best wishes to all the devotees undertaking the Yatras and expressed appreciation for those working selflessly to ensure the pilgrimages are conducted successfully and safely.
