Stock Market close highlights, Wednesday, July 16, 2025: Following a tumultuous session, Indian equity benchmark indexes closed with slight gains despite ongoing earnings season anxieties and fears over a prospective India-US trade agreement.
The BSE Sensex recovered its early losses and concluded at 82,634.48 levels, up 63.57 points or 0.08 percent, while the Nifty50 closed nearly flat at 25,212.05, up 16.25 points or 0.06 percent.
In the broader markets, the NSE Midcap 100 index closed flat with a positive bias, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 advanced 0.03 percent
On the sectoral front, Nifty PSU Bank emerged as the top gainer, up 1.81 per cent. Among the index constituents, Punjab National Bank, Punjab & Sind Bank, Canara Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, Bank of Baroda, Bank of India, SBI, Indian Bank, and Union Bank of India rose over 1 per cent each.
Among the Sensex constituents, 16 out of 30 stocks settled in red. Eternal, Sun Pharma, Tata Steel, Tata Motors, and Bajaj Finance were the top laggards, falling up to 1.6 per cent. Mahindra & Mahindra, Tech Mahindra, State Bank of India, Infosys and Adani Ports were the top gainers.
Meanwhile, the India VIX, which measures market volatility, closed down 2.09 percent at 11.24 points.
