Stock market close highlights, Thursday, August 14, 2025: Following a rangebound trading session, Indian benchmark indexes concluded the day mostly unchanged as investors opted to stay out of the market in anticipation of the long weekend.
Due to Independence Day, the Indian markets will not be open for business tomorrow, August 15.
The weekly Nifty50 options expiry did cause some volatility in benchmark indices. At 24,631.30, the NSE Nifty 50 index increased 11.95 points, or 0.01 percent.
In contrast, the Sensex fluctuated within a narrow range of 261 points. The BSE benchmark touched a high of 80,751.18, and a low of 80,489.86 on Thursday. In the end, the Sensex closed at 80,597.66, up 0.07 percent, or 57.75 points.
Tata Steel, Tech Mahindra, and Adani Ports were some of the worst laggards on the BSE, while Eternal, Infosys, and Asian Paints were the top gainers.
Similarly, Tata Steel, Adani Ports, and Hero MotoCorp were among the top losers on the NSE, while Wipro, Eternal, and Infosys were the top gainers.
Wider indices had a lower finish. SmallCap closed 0.38 percent down, while the Nifty Midcap 100 index closed 0.31 percent lower.
Performance by sector was inconsistent. The largest gainer, up 0.75 percent, was Nifty Consumer Durables, followed by Nifty IT, up 0.4%.
Metal, Oil and Gas, and Realty were down 1.39 percent, 0.91 percent, and 0.76 percent, respectively, among the losers.
