Stock market close highlights on Wednesday, September 3, 2025:
Benchmark equity indices closed higher on Wednesday, boosted by gains in metal and pharmaceutical sectors on Day 1 of the GST Council Meeting.
The opening of the two-day Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council meeting, which is expected to discuss on rationalising the indirect tax system, boosted investor optimism. Prime Minister Narendra Modi hinted at this step in his Independence Day address.
The BSE Sensex closed at 80,567.71, up 409.83 points (0.51 percent), while the NSE Nifty50 up 134.45 points (0.55 percent) at 24,715.05.
Apart from that, on the BSE, Tata Steel, Titan, and M&M were the top gainers, while Infosys, NTPC, and Hindustan Unilever were among the main losers.
Similarly, the NSE’s top gainers were Tata Steel, Hindalco, and JSW Steel, while the top losers were Infosys, Nestle, and HDFC Life.
Broader indices, too, finished in green. The Nifty Midcap 100 index concluded 0.69 percent higher, while SmallCap settled 0.89 percent higher.
Nifty Metal was the sector’s top gainer (up 3.11%), followed by Pharma (1.10%) and PSU Bank (1.03%). On the other hand, the Nifty IT and Media fell 0.74 percent and 0.04 percent, respectively.
