Stock market close highlights, Wednesday, October 8, 2025: Following a tumultuous session, the main equity indices closed in red, trimming their initial gains on Wednesday due to cautious market sentiment and mixed global indications.
The BSE Sensex closed at 81,773.66, down 153.09 points or 0.19 percent, and the NSE Nifty closed at 25,046.15, down 62.15 points or 0.25 percent.
In the broader market, the Nifty Midcap 100 and Smallcap 100 indices fell 0.73% and 0.52%, respectively.
All sectors, with the exception of Nifty IT and Consumer Durables, closed in the red. The Nifty IT index increased 1.51%, driven by increases in Infosys, TCS, Coforge, LTIMindtree, HCL Tech, and Tech Mahindra. In contrast, Nifty Realty, Media, Auto, and Energy all declined by more than 1%. Nifty Bank, FMCG, Financial Services, Pharma, Metal, and Oil & Gas all fell up to 1%.
Of the Sensex constituents, 21 out of 30 settled lower. Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bharat Electronics, UltraTech Cement, Trent, and Sun Pharma were the biggest losers. Titan, Infosys, TCS, HCL Tech, and Tech Mahindra were the biggest gainers.
