Stock Market Close Highlights, December 31, 2025: Indian equity markets ended the year’s final trading session on a positive note, with broad-based buying lifting most sectors except for IT.
The BSE Sensex closed at 85,220.6, up 545.52 points or 0.64 percent, while the NSE Nifty50 traded at 26,129.6, up 190.75 points or 0.74 percent.
The Nifty50 index finished up for the tenth consecutive calendar year, up 10.5 percent. Similarly, the BSE Sensex advanced 9.06 percent.
On BSE, Tata Steel, Kotak Mahindra Bank, RIL, Titan, and Axis Bank were among the top gainers. Conversely, TCS, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, Bajaj Finance, Sun Pharma, and ICICI Bank were the top laggards.
Among the broader market indices, the Nifty MidCap 100 and Nifty SmallCap 100 closed 0.95 percent and 1.11 percent higher, respectively.
In fiscal year 2025, Nifty MidCap 100 climbed 5.7%, extending its winning streak to six years, while Nifty SmallCap fell 5.6%, ending a two-year winning trend.
Except for Nifty IT, which fell 0.3%, all other indices finished higher. The Nifty Oil & Gas index surged 2.66 percent, followed by Nifty Bank, Realty, Metal, Consumer Durables, Media, and Chemicals, all of which increased by more than 1%.
