Stock Market Close Highlights, January 20, 2026: The Indian market extended its losses on Tuesday, closing significantly lower amid heavy selling across sectors as investors pondered rising global tensions. Stock-specific swings occurred throughout the ongoing Q3 earnings season.
The BSE Sensex closed at 82,180.47, down 1,065.71 points or 1.28 percent, while the NSE Nifty50 was quoted at 25,232.5, down 353 points or 1.38 percent.
Except for HDFC Bank, all Sensex stocks closed in the red. Bajaj Finance, Eternal, Sun Pharma, and IndiGo were among the biggest drags.
Sectoral indexes also fell across the board. Nifty Realty led the decline, falling more than 5%, followed by Nifty Auto (down 2.56%) and Nifty IT (down 2.06%).
Broader markets experienced bigger falls, with the Nifty Midcap down 2.62 percent and the Nifty Smallcap down 2.85 percent.
