Stock Market Close Highlights, January 23, 2026: Indian equity benchmarks extended losses on Friday to end the session lower, weighed down by Adani Group stocks, Eternal, and IndiGo.
The NSE Nifty50 closed at 25,048.65, down 241.25 points or 0.95 percent, while the BSE Sensex closed at 81,537.7, down 769.67 points or 0.94 percent.
Tech Mahindra, Infosys, HUL, TCS, and ICICI Bank were among the top gainers on the BSE, while Adani Ports, Eternal, IndiGo, and Axis Bank were among the top laggards.
Every sectoral index ended the day down. The biggest decline was 3.34 percent for Nifty Realty and 2.27 percent for Nifty PSU Bank.
The Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 indices closed 1.8% and 1.95% lower, respectively, indicating that broader markets continued to be under pressure.
