Sensex today | Stock Market Highlights today, Tuesday, February 17, 2026: On Tuesday, Indian benchmark indexes closed higher for the second straight session, boosted by gains in public sector banks and information technology (IT) equities amid muted global indications.
At market close, the BSE Sensex stood at 83,450.96, up 173.81 points or 0.21 percent, while the NSE Nifty50 was quoted at 25,725.40, up 42.65 points or 0.17 percent.
ITC, BEL, Infosys, L&T, Asian Paints, and Titan were the Sensex basket’s top gainers, trading up to 2.3%. In contrast, Eternal, Trent, Tata Steel, RIL, M&M, and Bajaj Finserv were among the top laggards, falling by much to 1.5%.
In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap and SmallCap indexes closed 0.27 percent and 0.56 percent higher, respectively.
Among sectors, the Nifty PSU Bank index surged more than 2%, followed by the Nifty IT Bank. On the negative, the Nifty Metal index fell 1 percent.
Analysts suggest that Nifty IT businesses may regain momentum after losing roughly ₹5 trillion in market capitalization this year. The recent selloff indicates undervaluation.
