The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange warning for thunderstorms and lightning in various states, including Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, and Gujarat, due to nor’westerly activity.
“Orange warning is issued for light to moderate thunderstorm with lightning and gusty wind activity along with light to modertae rain over Jammu region , Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat”, read IMD notification.
In contrast, a red warning has been issued for severe thunderstorms with maximum surface wind speeds of 62-87 kmph (in gusts) and moderate rain (5-15 mm/hr) in Andhra Pradesh’s Prakasam, Guntur, Krishna, Eluru, NTR, and West Godavari districts.
The IMD has characterized the storm as a westerly wind. It is recommended that people bring umbrellas and raincoats when they go outside. The temperature is forecast to dip by 4-6 degrees Celsius during the following three days.
The state will endure nor’westerly activity until April 24, with thunderstorms and showers expected in certain regions every day. On Thursday, the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre issued a warning for the districts of Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, and Boudh.
