Stock Market Crash Highlights on Wednesday, July 8, 2026: The Nifty50 and Sensex fell as increased tensions in West Asia shook investors’ risk appetites.
The Sensex closed 1,677.12 points, or 2.15 percent, lower at 76,503.60, while the Nifty50 slid 516.65 points, or 2.12 percent, to 23,882.05. The indices had their worst session in over three months.
Tensions between the US and Iran rose after US President Donald Trump declared that the ceasefire with Iran was over, but the negotiations can continue after both countries exchanged strikes in the Strait of Hormuz.
Jio Financial Services, InterGlobe Aviation, and Shriram Finance were the biggest losers in the Nifty50 index. Except for four Nifty50 constituents, they all finished in the red.
Sector-wise, the Nifty PSU Bank and the Nifty Bank dropped the most, while the Nifty Metal and the Nifty Pharma declined the least to emerge as top performers.
