Hirakud dam authorities have opened a total of 22 sluice gates in response to rising water levels in the reservoir, according to the most recent information from dam officials on Saturday.
According to the most recent data, the reservoir level (R.L.) was 625.47 feet, with a rising trend. This compares to the Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 630 feet.
The average inflow into the Hirakud Reservoir was 4,15,017 cusecs, with an average outflow of 3,89,603 cusecs. The majority of the outflow—3.54,002 cusecs—was being released through the spillway. Additional releases comprised 31,759 cusecs through the power channel, 247 cusecs for industrial usage, and 3,595 cusecs via canals (mainly BMC, SMC, and SBP distributaries).
The heavy input and gate operations are being managed to maintain water levels in the Mahanadi River reservoir. Downstream gauge stations reported substantial releases, and authorities were actively watching the situation.
Dam personnel continue to operate the gates in real time, taking into account inflow, rainfall in catchment areas, and downstream circumstances. Residents in low-lying areas near the Mahanadi and its tributaries have been urged to keep vigilant.
