In a meeting with Nepal’s Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle on Friday in New Delhi, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar expressed his condolences for the loss of life and property caused by the recent flash floods.
“Glad to meet Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle of Nepal today in Delhi.Offered my deep condolences on the destruction of lives and property in the recent flash floods.Discussed ways to strengthen our overall cooperation, especially in economic, energy and connectivity domains. Neighbourhood First,” EAM Jaishankar stated on X.
Wagle met with Nirmala Sitharaman, the Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, in New Delhi on Thursday for an official bilateral meeting.
A broad range of topics pertaining to development cooperation and areas of shared interest between the two neighboring nations were discussed by the two ministers.
The talks focused especially on trade and investment, post-flood rehabilitation, collaboration in the energy sector, and enhancing connectivity between Nepal and India, according to the Embassy of Nepal in India.
The meeting also covered other areas of mutual interest aimed at strengthening and broadening the longstanding economic partnership between the two countries.
“Dr. Swarnim Wagle, Finance Minister of Nepal, had an official bilateral meeting with Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs of India, in New Delhi today,” the Embassy said on X.
“The two ministers had a comprehensive discussion on a wide-ranging set of issues related to development cooperation, with a focus on post-flood reconstruction, trade, investment, energy, connectivity as well as other areas of mutual interest to strengthen and broaden longstanding economic partnership between Nepal and India,” it added.
According to the statement, both parties stressed how crucial it is to continue bolstering trade and economic ties between India and Nepal.
The Indian government invited Nepal’s finance minister to visit New Delhi for three days. His visit coincides with Nepal’s efforts to plan for restoration and evaluate the economic damage caused by previous disasters.
With connectivity, energy, and trade continuing to be crucial aspects of their relationship, Nepal and India are working on areas of economic and development cooperation at the time of the bilateral engagement.
