Junaid Khan, Aamir Khan’s son, is gearing up for his acting debut on screen. Junaid’s Maharaj will air on Netflix. The streaming service resorted to social media on Wednesday to announce the film’s release date and reveal its first teaser poster.
The poster of the film was shared on Netflix’s official handle, “The fight for the truth between a powerful man and a fearless journalist. Based on true events – Maharaj is releasing on 14 June, only on Netflix!.”
The film Maharaj, starring Jaideep Ahlawat, Sharvari Wagh, and Shalini Pandey, is based on the 1862 Maharaja Libel Case. Junaid plays Karsandas Mulji, a journalist and social reformer who was a pioneer in the fight for women’s rights and social reform. As a student at Elphinstone College in Mumbai and a protégé of scholar-leader Dadabhai Naoroji, he wrote on widow remarriage, spoke for the underprivileged, and planted the seeds of social reform.
Talking about her working experience with Junaid, Sharvari, who plays a pivotal role in the film, said in an interview with media, “Junaid is a very easy breezy human being. He’s a good co-actor to work with. I had a lot of fun working with him. We’re in the same age group, so we had a blast during the shoot. Maharaj is one of his first few projects and so is mine. That’s why we had a very similar energy on set.”
Mulji’s bravery will be highlighted in the film Maharaj, produced by Netflix and Yash Raj Films. Based on the libel case, the film exposes audiences to Junaid Khan in his acting debut, which is directed by Siddharth P Malhotra.
Following Maharaj, Junaid will appear alongside Sai Pallavi in a film purportedly named Ek Din.
