The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has published a new timetable for the 2024-25 academic year on its website. The development follows the Supreme Court’s judgment enabling technical colleges to extend their entrance deadline to October 23. The website notifies students that the deadline for first-year admission to technical colleges has been extended until October 23.
Previously, the admissions date for these colleges was September 15. The extension of the admissions deadline does not apply to standalone institutions that provide Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) and Post Graduate Certificate in Management (PGCM).
Such colleges must adhere to their initial admission timelines, which remain unaltered.
Revised Academic Calendar 2024-25:
➡ Last date for Ist Year student admissions against vacancies: 23 Oct 2024
➡ Commencement of Ist Year classes for technical courses: 23 Oct 2024
➡ Last date for Lateral Entry admissions (IInd Year): 23 Oct 2024@SITHARAMtg pic.twitter.com/pwXYIBPij1— AICTE (@AICTE_INDIA) September 25, 2024
Furthermore, AICTE has revised the deadline for lateral admissions for second-year students in technical institutes to October 23. Previously, the deadline was September 15. According to the AICTE’s amended calendar, first-year technical students will resume classes on October 23.
Meanwhile, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced that all central, state, and private universities are no longer required to obtain prior approval from the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE).
According to the most recent announcement, colleges do not need previous approval/recommendation/NOC from AICTE to provide Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Postgraduate diploma programs in Management, Computer Applications, and Travel and Tourism in ODL and/or online modes.
“The Commission considered the communication received from AICTE stating that as per Hon’ble Supreme Court Judgement in Bharathidasan University and Another Vs. All India Council for Technical Education and Others (2001) 8 SCC 676, it is not mandatory for the State/Private Universities to take AICTE approval to run Technical programmes,” says the notification.
