Drishyam 2, the highly anticipated thriller starring Ajay Devgn and Tabu, is off to a strong start in terms of advance booking. The film’s producers opened advance booking for a day on October 2, and now, as it approaches its release week, full-fledged advances opened on Saturday evening.
According to Bollywood Hungama, the Abhishek Pathak-directed film sold 35,332 tickets in its first weekend at the three national chains-PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis-until Sunday morning.
With four days until the film’s November 18 release date, the advance has already surpassed that of Ajay Devgn’s previous two films, Runway 34 and Thank God.
Since its release, Drishyam 2 is expected to do well at the box office since its trailer was received positively and the film is riding on the high franchise value of the brand Drishyam.
In addition to Devgn, Shriya Saran, Ishita Dutta, Mrunal Jadhav, Rajat Kapoor, and Tabu reprise their roles from the first installment of the thriller. Akshaye Khanna, who plays a cop in the film, is a new cast member.
Devgn plays Vijay Salgoankar in the film, and Tabu reprises her role as Inspector General of Police Meera Deshmukh. Drishyam 2, like its predecessor, is a remake of the acclaimed Malayalam film of the same name, which starred Mohanlal.
The Malayalam film, directed by Jeethu Joseph, followed Georgekutty (Mohanlal) and his family’s struggle after the son of the Inspector General of Police is killed.
