An all-party meeting was held today, a day before the Odisha Legislative Assembly’s Budget Session began.
The conference, presided over by Speaker Surama Padhy, intended to ensure a smooth and coordinated session by promoting interaction among various political parties and discussing crucial legislative issues.
The conference was attended by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Opposition Leader Prasanna Acharya, Opposition Chief Whip Pramila Mallik, and Congress Legislature Party leader Rama Chandra Kadam.
After the meeting, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Mukesh Mahaling noted that the conversation centered on safeguarding the House’s calm and orderly conduct.
The budget session will officially start tomorrow, February 17, with the Governor’s address. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who also serves as Finance Minister, will deliver the State Budget for Fiscal Year 2026-27 on February 20.
The opposition parties, BJD and Congress, are preparing to question the government on a variety of subjects, including paddy procurement, the Mahanadi water dispute, and pollution control measures. The ruling BJP is formulating a strategy to counter the opposition’s attacks.
Meanwhile, security has been increased ahead of the Budget Session, with many layers of protection in and around the Legislative Assembly. Dog squads, bomb squads, a snake helpline, and firefighting services will be dispatched.
In addition, twenty platoons of police will be stationed around the Assembly, and the entire area will be under CCTV observation.
Five temporary police camps have been put up near the Assembly, along with a temporary police control station for the session.
