Bhubaneswar: Amid rising cases of COVID-19 in some states and detection of a new variant of coronavirus, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Kumar Jena today announced that Holi and ‘Dola Jatra’ celebrations & associated religious and cultural congregations will not be allowed in public places across the State.
Religious rituals in temples will continue as usual with strict adherence of Covid protocols. People may celebrate Holi indoors with their family members. Anyone found violating this order shall be punished the Disaster Management Act, 2005 and different relevant laws, an order issued by the SRC read.
“The Nation and the States are passing through a critical situation due to the detection of new variant of SARS-CoV 2. It is necessary to strictly adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols for containment of spread of the infection,” the order said.
Considering local conditions, Collectors and Municipal Commissioners may impose an appropriate restriction on the entry of devotees into temples and celebrations in temples and religious places, the SRC’s order further said.
The resurgence of SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) has been seen in many parts of the world including Brazil, Germany, Italy and France and so on and in many components of India such as Maharastra, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Kerala.
“‘Dolayatra’ and ‘Holi’ are approaching and people often congregate and get in contact with one another to celebrate the festivals and play colours during which use of face masks and physical distancing norms are not able to be adhered to and such congregations have a potentiality to cause the spread of the virus,” the order added.
