The Australian team vice-captain, Pat Cummins,  has echoed the sentiments of his teammate Nathan Lyon and mentioned that Virat Kohli’s absence because of his paternity leave after the first Test match in Adelaide may “make a bit of difference” however he was “unsure” if it might be the deciding factor in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Pat Cummins, who was recently in UAE to signify Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2020, added that Indian cricket has a knack of finding “some incredible batsman” and therefore, the absence of the Indian skipper might be the beggining of someone else’s career.

“To be honest, as a captain, obviously he’ll be missed but the Indian cricket side always finds some incredible batsman, who outside the team, just waiting for an opportunity, so perhaps that new alternative would be the beginning of someone else’s career,” he mentioned in a media interaction on Monday, 16 November.

“It might make a bit of a difference. I am not certain it’s gonna be a deciding factor in the series but to be honest us players haven’t spoken too much about it,” Cummins said in a media interaction on Monday.

Pat Cummins needs Australia to ‘amend’ their loss against India this summer

The final time India toured the Kangaroo nation for a Test sequence was in 2018-19. In a uncommon sight, the Indian team have been all around the Australians as they defeated them 2-1 in their own yard. Tim Paine’s aspect have been outshined in all of the departments of the game. Pat Cummins, probably the most profitable Australian pacer from that sequence, needs his group to make amends for these defeats, this year. He has reckoned that the boys waring the Dishevelled Inexperienced take pride in winning at home.

“We have got a lot to prove. India played really well here a couple of years ago. We as an Aussie cricket team, and as long as I’ve grown up watching them play, pride ourselves on winning at home, especially Take a look at matches. So to lose that one, I really feel like we’ve got to make amends this summer,” mentioned Cummins.

“It’s gonna be an awesome sequence. Each teams I believe are at the top of the Test Championship table at the moment. It’s going to be a high-quality series,” he said.

Pat Cummins unsure about his availability for the white ball formats

Cummins refrained from speaking about his plans of enjoying or withdrawing from the ODI and T20I fixtures which precedes the 4-match Test series from December 17.

“(I) haven’t made a final decision on that but,” he said. “Obviously, (it’s) unprecedented times with so many people spending a large portion of time in these bubbles so we’ll keep all of the conversations open, chat about {that a} bit nearer to when we all get together.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s times throughout the summer where some players may just want a little relaxation knowing not only how busy this next couple of months is but also a tour of South Africa (February-March) and a few away tours subsequent 12 months. There’s all the time cricket on, so we’ll ensure we’re all open about that, having these conversations.”

The first ODI match between the two cricketing giants will be played form November 27.
