Sore throats are fairly common, especially during the changing seasons. With the resurgence of Covid-19 cases, many people are reporting persistent symptoms such as sore throat, cold, and cough. While antibiotics are commonly used to treat sore throats, how about treating your sore throat without taking those bitter pills?
An Ayurvedic expert, recommended a few Ayurvedic remedies to help you heal your sore throat effectively during this uncomfortable period.
Turmeric and salt water gargles
Take 250-300 ml of water and add 1 tbsp of turmeric and half tbsp of salt and boil it for 5 minutes. Once it’s warm enough to touch, gargle with it and keep your immunity high. “You can gargle 3-4 times/day. It will make you feel less congested and soothe your throat like anything.
Amla juice
Amla juice is known to help cure cough and sore throat. “Have 15-20 ml of amla juice with 1 tsp honey twice a day,” the expert suggested.
Fenugreek
Boil 1 tsp fenugreek in 250 ml of water for 5 minutes, strain and drink it.
Cinnamon
Cinnamon powder and sticks are common in Indian kitchens and can help relieve sore throats. “Boil half a teaspoon cinnamon powder or a small cinnamon stick in 250 ml of water for 5 minutes, strain, and let it be warm/cold enough to drink,” she explained.
Tulsi leaves
Tulsi leaves have medicinal properties and can provide you with a variety of health benefits. Boil 4-5 tulsi leaves in water, strain, and drink to treat cough and sore throat. If desired, add honey and ginger.
Warm water with honey and lemon
Warm water with half a lemon and some honey, which is commonly recommended to detoxify your body, can also do wonders for your throat.
Water warm
Warm water can help with a variety of problems, from congestion to constipation. Drink plenty of warm water throughout the day to keep your throat healthy.
Ginger Tea
She advised boiling an inch of fresh ginger in 1 cup of water for 3-4 minutes, straining and sipping on warming ginger tea that soothes your inflamed gut as well as your throat.
Chew cloves
Keep a few cloves between your teeth and cheeks in the back of your mouth. You can bite them to release the oils in them on occasion. Their numbing properties make them a useful home remedy for sore throats. They are also beneficial if you have a dry cough.
