Odisha launched Bal Aadhaar registration on Thursday as part of the Digital India initiative. After the birth of a child, birth registration will be done by linking the Aadhaar card, making access to government services easier.
According to the state Health and Family Welfare department, one should contact the hospital where the child is born to obtain the Bal Aadhaar. For Bal Aadhaar registration, either parent must have an Aadhaar number.
Biometrics will not be required for a child until he or she reaches the age of five. Registration is free for the first 21 days after birth, and Aadhaar card registration is always free.
Meanwhile, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has decided to provide residents with free online Aadhaar document updates for the next three months.
Residents have been urged to take advantage of a free document update facility on the myAadhaar portal as part of the Digital India initiative. The free service will be available only on the myAadhaar portal for the next three months, beginning March 15.
