The most affordable Chetak scooter is currently the Bajaj Chetak 2901, which is available for Rs 95,998 (ex-showroom Bengaluru including EMPS 2024, which stands for Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme 2024) as part of Bajaj Auto’s recent lineup expansion. This results in a price difference of Rs 27,321 and Rs 51,245 between it and the Bajaj Chetak Urbane and Premium versions, respectively. The Chetak 2901 will be available in dealerships from June 15, 2024 onwards.
There will be five colors available for the Chetak 2901 Blue Line, including vivid hues that aren’t provided on the Chetak Urbane and Premium models. The color scheme of the 2901 consists of Lime Yellow, Azure Blue, Black, and Red. Along with the black alloy wheels, Bajaj has kept the scooter’s dark highlights for the lighting system, but it now has a new decal on the front and side panels.
The Chetak 2901 boasts a color digital instrument cluster as well. Customers can choose to install the TecPac software upgrade, which costs an extra Rs 3,000 and unlocks features like follow-me-home lighting, Bluetooth-based app connectivity, hill hold assistance, sport, economy, and reverse riding modes.
In addition to removing the front storage container from the Chetak 2901 and substituting open storage bins, Bajaj also left out the remote key fob that was included with the Chetak Premium, using a standard key and key slot in its place. Contrary to what was implied by rumors, the Chetak 2901 retains the direct drive motor found in other Chetak models. As of right now, Bajaj has not revealed the precise power output of the Chetak 2901. However, it has shown that the Chetak 2901 can reach a maximum speed of 63 kmph.
In contrast to the newly released entry-level TVS iQube, which includes a disc brake up front, the Chetak 2901 and the Chetak Urbane only have drum brakes on both ends. Despite this, the Chetak 2901 has an ARAI-certified range of up to 123 kilometers and uses a larger battery pack (2.88 kWh vs. 2.2 kWh) than the most economical iQube. The firm states that it will take six hours to completely charge the Chetak 2901.
According to a statement from Bajaj, the Bajaj Chetak is being sold through more than 500 showrooms throughout India. The Chetak 2901 costs just Rs 6,000 more than the Ola S1X Plus 3 kWh at this pricing point, placing it on par with the TVS iQube 2.2 kWh.
Bajaj, which has leapfrogged Ather Energy to become India’s third largest electric two-wheeler manufacturer in monthly sales, is clearly hoping to keep pace with second-placed TVS Motor Company, which is aiming to cross sales of 25,000 electric scooters on a monthly basis with its recent product lineup expansion.
