The BJP-led NDA is committed to the liberation and empowerment of women, especially ‘Jeevika Didis,’ and the newly elected Bihar government will increase monetary support under the Rozgar Yojana from Rs 10,000 to Rs 2 lakh, senior BJP leader Smriti Irani said on Tuesday.
Addressing a news conference, the former Union Minister stated that 1.30 crore sisters in Bihar have already got Rs 10,000 in their bank accounts, which will soon be increased to Rs 2 lakh to encourage their entrepreneurial enterprises.
Highlighting the NDA government’s women-centric schemes in the poll-bound state, she stated, “Under the Ujjawala Yojana, 1.16 crore women in Bihar have received LPG cylinders, making their kitchens smoke-free.” Over 11 lakh Self-Help Groups (SHGs) have been established under the Jeevika plan to help people become self-sufficient and less reliant on others.”
She added that if the BJP-led NDA government is elected, it will accelerate the drive to foster a self-sufficient environment in Bihar and provide Rs 2 lakh in additional monetary help to over one crore sisters.
Furthermore, she emphasized the NDA’s determination to assist women’s advancement to the legislature, stating that it was the NDA government that introduced historic legislation granting 33% reservation for women in Parliament, allowing them to become public leaders and parliamentarians.
She called it “Mahathugbandhan” and accused it of exploiting the people, particularly the state’s women.
When asked about Tejashwi’s recent promise of Rs 30,000 under the Maai Bahin Yojana, she claimed it reflected desperation and discontent within the RJD camp.
“Their promise is an attempt to underestimate and undermine women’s power. The grand alliance is desperate to drum up support in the elections and hence is resorting to such tactics,” she said.
She added that while the NDA government is providing direct financial support to women, Opposition leaders, particularly from the RJD, are attempting to block this women’s empowerment.
“This is a matter of great concern that on one side, NDA is facilitating women’s empowerment by financially empowering them, but the corrupt alliance is trying to block this empowerment,” she said, referring to RJD’s proposal to the Election Commission of India to stop disbursal of funds under the Rozgar Yojana.
Under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana, tranches of Rs 10,000 are placed into the accounts of ‘Jeevika Didis’ to enable them realize their entrepreneurial dreams.
Notably, more than 1.1 crore women have been chosen as beneficiaries of this plan in Bihar. The Rural Development Department is in charge of implementing the plan, which aims to encourage women to start businesses and work for themselves.
