Sushil Kumar Lohani, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), addressed a press conference following the completion of vote counting for the Padampur bye-elections.
According to the final results announced by the CEO, Barsha Singh Bariha of the BJD defeated Pradip Purohit of the BJP by 42,679 votes.
Purohit received 78,128 votes, while Bariha received 1,20,807 votes. According to Lohani, Congress party candidate Satya Bhushan Sahu received 3,594 votes.
Similarly, 3,687 votes were cast in support of smaller parties and independent candidates, while 2,087 votes were cast in support of NOTA (none of the above).
“This is the final tally after completion of counting. It includes 300 postal ballots out of which 48 were rejected and 252 were found valid to be counted,” Lohani stated.
