Bhubaneswar: None of the students of Burla-based Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) are COVID-19 positive however the alleged surge was because of defective test kits, informed Additional Chief Secretary of Health Department, Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra, on Tuesday.
The students had tested positive as a batch of the Rapid antigen test kit was defective. They have been later tested negative in the RT-PCR test. In the meantime, the supplier has been asked to replace the defective test kit, Mohapatra added.
Earlier on February 27, VSSUT Vice Chancellor Bibhuti Bhusan Pati had informed that 25 students of the varsity have examined Covid-19 positive. Subsequently, the district administration on February 28 ordered for an indefinite shutdown of the university until further orders.
As per the order issued by the Office of Sambalpur Collector, the VSSUT hostels declared as containment zone are Pulaha, Pulastya, Atri, Kratu, Vasistha, Marich, Anuradha, Arundhati, Rohini, Visakha and Vasundhara whereas the adjacent area of Pulaha Hostel has been declared as buffer zone.
