Candidates from all three major political parties in Odisha, the ruling BJD, the BJP, and the Congress, filed nomination papers for the Brajarajnagar Assembly seat in the Jharsuguda district on Wednesday.

Alaka Mohanty of the Biju Janata Dal, Radharani Panda of the Bharatiya Janata Party, and Kishore Patel of the Congress filed nomination papers on Wednesday, the last day for filing nominations.

After holding rallies with party leaders and supporters, all three candidates went to the Jharsuguda Sub-Collector and Returning Officer’s office to file their nominations.

Naba Kishore Das, Padmanabha Behera, Tukuni Sahu, Prasanna Acharya, and Susanta Singh were among the senior BJD leaders and ministers who took part in the nomination filing ceremony.

The BJD leaders claimed that they would win the by-election by a margin of more than 50,000 votes.

“Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is always there for the people in their ups and downs.” Late Kishore Mohanty had a close relationship with the people of this area. So, we will undoubtedly win the by-election by a margin of more than 50,000 votes,” claimed Behera.

The BJD candidate will easily win the by-election by more than 50,000 votes. Naba Das advised waiting until June 3 to see what happens.

In the presence of Odisha BJP President Sameer Mohanty, Bargarh MP Suresh Pujari, and former Union Minister Jual Oram, BJP’s Panda submitted her nomination papers to the returning officer.

“The MLA segment’s conscious citizens will definitely reject the lollipop offered by the ruling party during the elections and support the BJP,” Mohanty projected.

The BJP, which won the MLA seat in the 2014 election, will make every effort to reclaim it in this by-election, according to Pujari.

“We will go to the voters and make them aware of their issues and problems, which the ruling parties have failed to resolve,” Congress nominee Patel said after filing his nomination.

Mohanty is the widow of the late Kishore Mohanty, whose death necessitated the bypoll.

Panda was elected to the Assembly from the seat in 2014, defeating BJD candidate Anup Kumar Sai. In 2019, she was defeated by BJD’s Kishore Mohanty by 11,634 votes.

Similarly, Congress’ Patel, a three-term legislator, ran unsuccessfully for the seat in 2014. In 2019, Congress gave the CPI the seat.
