On January 1, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) began the yearly practical tests, internal assessments, and project evaluations for Class 10 and Class 12 for the 2024-25 academic year.
The Board has published instructions for schools and has instructed them to rigorously follow the standards in order to guarantee that the examinations run smoothly and transparently. The CBSE has encouraged schools to contact their regional offices “well in time” for clarity.
CBSE Class 10, 12 Practical Exams: Guidelines for schools
— Schools must confirm the availability of sufficient practical answer books. Any shortages must be reported to the concerned CBSE regional office immediately.
— Schools are required to inform students and parents about the practical exam schedule to ensure compliance with the Board’s instructions.
— Schools must ensure that laboratories are adequately equipped and prepared with the necessary infrastructure, materials, and equipment for the examinations.
— External examiners appointed by CBSE must be contacted well in advance to ensure the seamless conduct of the assessments.
— Arrangements should be made to accommodate Children with Special Needs (CWSN), allowing them to participate comfortably in the practical exams.
— Students must appear for their practical exams as per the school-defined schedule within the stipulated period of January 1 to February 14, 2025.
— Schools must upload the marks on the same day as the examination. The Internal and External Examiners are jointly responsible for ensuring accuracy, as no corrections will be permitted post-upload.
— Schools must cross-check the maximum marks for each subject before awarding and uploading marks. Principals are reminded that post-result corrections will not be entertained.
— Examiners must ensure that marks are awarded solely based on students’ performance during the assessments.
— Answer books now include an undertaking requiring examiners to verify maximum marks and adhere to all CBSE instructions.
— Students engaged in national or international sports will not receive exemptions from practical exams, nor will separate arrangements be made for them.
— For Class 12, only CBSE-appointed external examiners are authorized to conduct practical exams. Any violation will render the assessment null and void.
— Schools failing to comply with CBSE’s guidelines risk cancellation of the practical examinations.
— Schools must complete all practical assessments by February 14, 2025. Principals are advised to monitor the progress from February 1, ensuring timely mark uploads.
CBSE has also issued the board exam dates for classes 10 and 12. The Class 10 and 12 examinations will begin on February 15, 2025. The Class 10 examinations will begin with the English paper on February 15, while the Class 12 exams will begin on the first day.
