The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has directed all affiliated schools to follow the new syllabi and textbooks for classes 3 and 6 being released by NCERT. In a circular, the board has directed schools to use new textbooks published by NCERT till 2023.

“The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has informed CBSE through a letter dated 18.03.2024 that new syllabi and textbooks for Grades 3 and 6 are currently under development and will soon be released. Consequently, schools are advised to follow these new syllabi and textbooks for classes 3 and 6 in place of textbooks published by NCERT till the year 2023,” the official circular stated.

However, there will be no change in the curriculum and textbooks for other grades for the academic year 2024-25 commencing from April 1, according to CBSE officials.

The NCERT in its March 18 letter to the CBSE had said that the new syllabus will be structured in line with the recommendations of the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023 for the upcoming academic session 2024-25.

“This initiative is aimed at facilitating a ‘seamless transition for students to new pedagogical perspectives and areas of study, particularly Arts, Physical Education, Vocational Education, and The World Around Us (for Grade 3), for which activity-books/textbooks are being developed with new perspectives aligned with NCF-SE 2023,” said the NCERT circular.

“We request that CBSE proactively communicate this development to their school heads, teachers, and parents. We advise the formulation of a strategy to engage students of Grades 3 and 6 in playful and activity-based learning at the start of the new academic year, ensuring a holistic environment that encompasses arts, physical education, and well-being, skill education, and fresh insights into language, mathematics, science, environmental education, and social sciences,” NCERT had said in its notification.

Further, the NCERT will also be providing the board with a syllabus bridge programme for Grade 6 and succinct guidelines for Grade 3.
