The central government has granted 62 more postgraduate (PG) medical seats for the state’s six government medical institutions and hospitals for the academic year 2025-26.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan made the announcement in a post on ‘X’. He indicated that the extra seats would be allocated among six medical colleges in the state.
Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla will receive 15 new PG seats, SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack will receive three, PGIMER and Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar have been allotted six additional seats, Pandit Raghunath Murmu (PRM) Medical College and Hospital in Baripada will receive 20 seats, and Fakir Mohan (FM) Medical College and Hospital in Balasore will receive eight, and Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Balangir will have 10 new seats.
Pradhan thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda for their assistance. He emphasized that the additional PG seats will greatly benefit Odisha’s healthcare sector.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi also thanked the Union Health Minister for boosting medical seats.
