Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Saturday at ISRO that the landing point for the Chandrayaan-3 mission would be designated as “Shiv Shakti Point.”
While the Chandrayaan-2 landing failure site will be known as “Tiranga point,” the day of the Vikram Lander’s touchdown on the Moon (August 23) will be observed as “National Space Day” across the country, he added.
Prime Minister Modi made the remarks while speaking to scientists at the Indian Space Research Organization’s (ISRO) Command Centre.
“India has decided to name the touchdown point where Vikram Lander made a soft landing on the Moon as “Shiv Shakti Point”. The word “Shiv” stands for the welfare of humanity. “Shakti” stands for the required strength to get going to achieve the welfare of humanity,” he stated.
From the Himalayas to Kanyakumari, the Moon’s Shiv Shakti point will be a sign of oneness. He emphasized that the Shiv Shakti Point will motivate future generations to utilise science for the sake of humanity.
PM Modi further remarked that the point of the Chandrayaan-2 mission had previously been defined. However, following the failure, it was decided to announce the designation after completing a soft landing on the Moon and proclaim at once. “Tiranga (tricolor) floats in every house, every heart, and now on the Moon.” What else could the point’s name be? “Tiranga” would be the name given to the location on the Moon where Chandrayaan Mission-2 left evidence.
Tiranga Point will serve as an inspiration. It will be a symbol that failure is not the end. It will also serve as proof that if you are dedicated, success is guaranteed. The Chandrayaan-3 Mission has influenced and inspired a generation. He maintained that any child that seeds the Moon will have a spirit of achievement within him.
“Hindustan (India) will celebrate the day of soft landing on the Moon as the National Space Day on Aug 23 every year. On the National Space Day science, technology and innovation will be celebrated and it is going to inspire us,” PM Modi explained.
The Prime Minister was greeted warmly upon his arrival at ISRO this morning by ISRO Chairman S. Somnath, ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) Director B.N. Ramakrishna, and U.R. Rao Satellite Centre Director S. Shankaran.
PM Modi hugged and patted the three scientists on the back.
Later, he posed with them for photographs.
According to sources, PM Modi will meet with scientists at the ISRO for 45 minutes.
Thousands of people gathered around ISRO to cheer on PM Modi.
Taking to his social media handle, he posted “Landed in Bengaluru. Looking forward to interacting with our exceptional ISRO scientists who have made India proud with the success of Chandrayaan-3! Their dedication
and passion are truly the driving forces behind our nation’s achievements in the space sector.”
