The four-day Chhath Puja festival has begun with Nahay Khay and Kharna. Let us tell you that Chhath Puja was celebrated. The Kharna Puja of the Chhath festival was on, October 29th. Chhath Puja is dedicated to Lord Surya and is also known as Surya Shashthi, Chhath, Chhath Parva, Dal Puja, Pratihara, and Dala Chhath. The Sun God is regarded as the god of energy and life force in the Vedas. During Chhath, women fast and pray to Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya for the well-being, prosperity, and advancement of their family and children. They also present Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya with Arghya. This festival is unique to the Indian states of Bihar, Jharkhand, and eastern Uttar Pradesh, as well as Nepal.
Chhath Puja 2022 Date –
Chhath Puja is held six days after Diwali, on the sixth day of the Kartik month. A day after Diwali, devotees prepare only sattvik food (no onion or garlic) with utmost cleanliness and begin preparing for Chhath by eating only after taking a bath. Chhath Puja will be held on 30 October, Sunday, and 31 October, Monday this year. Which began on October 28th with Nahay Khay. Following that, today, October 29, is Kharna Chhath Puja. People observe Chhath and adhere to strict customs and rules. According to the Drik Panchang, sunrise on Chhath Puja will be at 06:43 a.m. and sunset will be at 06:03 p.m. Shashthi Tithi will begin at 05:49 a.m. on October 30th and will end on 31st October at 03:27 am.
Chhath Puja History:
There are numerous mythological stories associated with the origins of Chhath Puja, some of which are mentioned in Rigvedic texts. Draupadi and Pandavas fasted for Chhath Puja in order to reclaim their kingdom and resolve their issues, according to Hindu mythology. Another legend holds that Karna, the son of Lord Surya and Kunti, used to perform Chhath Puja. During the Mahabharata period, he is said to have stood in water for hours to worship the Sun God.
Devotees offer Arghya and pray to Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya for their blessings during Chhath Puja. In addition, they make an offering to the Sun God for the prosperity and well-being of their children and family members.
Devotees chant Rigvedic mantras while worshiping Lord Surya. It is also said that Vedic sages used to perform Chhath Puja by exposing themselves to direct sunlight in order to obtain energy from the sun’s rays.
Chhath Puja 2022, Significance :
Women fast for 36 hours during Chhath Puja to seek blessings from Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya. The first day of Chhath is known as Nahay Khay – devotees bathe in holy water such as the Ganges, and women observe Chhath by keeping a Nirjala fast and preparing prasad for Lord Surya. The second and third days are known as Kharna and Chhath Puja, respectively. On these days, women observe a strict Nirjala fast. In addition, on the fourth day (Usha Arghya), women stand in water and offer Arghya to the rising sun before breaking their 36-hour fast.
