With Odisha preparing to host the forthcoming international T-20 match between India and South Africa on December 9, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has directed officials to make all necessary measures to ensure the event’s success and flawless execution.
He underlined the importance of thorough planning and execution to demonstrate Odisha’s ability to host international events at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, which has previously hosted multiple international matches.
CM Majhi chaired a preliminary meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan today to go over the plans for India’s upcoming T-20 match against South Africa at Barabati Stadium. He encouraged authorities from the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) and the state administration to ensure the event runs well, preserving Odisha’s reputation.
Majhi noted that cricket is a popular sport in India, and the match will draw attention from all around the country and around the world. He urged everyone involved to stay vigilant and work together to make the match a huge success.
At the meeting, OCA secretary Sanjay Behera gave a full update on match preparations, including ticket sales, spectator facilities, lighting, infrastructure, fire safety, parking, and traffic control.
Majhi underlined the importance of foolproof security procedures during the international match, referencing the Delhi blast tragedy. He directed the police administration to be extra alert and safeguard the safety of the spectators.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister emphasized the need of a well-organized green corridor for transporting individuals with impairments or other challenges. He also emphasized on crowd management, ticket sales, and emergency medical services, directing officials to oversee these areas and guarantee the event ran smoothly.
According to the meeting, seating arrangements will be set based on the capacity of each stand, with a maximum number of spectators permitted. Additional generators will assure continuous lighting, and new software will be deployed to monitor the system. If one generator fails, another will kick in, maintaining uninterrupted lighting throughout the match.

The meeting was attended by several dignitaries, including Chief Minister’s advisor Prakash Mishra, Sports and Youth Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, Angul MLA and OCA member Pratap Chandra Pradhan, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Home Department Additional Chief Secretary Satyabrata Sahu, Director-General of Police YB Khurania, Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Saswat Mishra, OCA President Pankaj Lochan Mohanty, and OCA Secretary Sanjay Behera.
Other attendees included principal secretaries and secretaries from various departments, the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Police Commissioner, Cuttack District Collector, and senior officials, who discussed the match arrangements.
