The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported severe cold from the national capital on Sunday, as well as from most places in Punjab, Haryana, and western Uttar Pradesh.
The temperature in Delhi could drop to 4 degrees Celsius in the next 48 hours.
“Severe cold reported at most places in Punjab while it was a cold day at most places with isolated severe cold day reported over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi; cold day to severe cold day at isolated places over northwest Rajasthan and west Uttar Pradesh”, said IMD in a tweet.
On Sunday morning, the minimum temperature in Delhi was 5.3 degrees Celsius.
However, it gradually rose throughout the day to reach a high of 16.2 degrees Celsius.
According to the IMD, Delhi will remain under the influence of a cold wave on Monday as well.
The IMD predicts dense fog in the national capital on Monday, as well as a cold morning.
Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a fog warning for Punjab for the next five days.
Dense to very dense fog is expected to prevail in many areas of Punjab over the next two days.
According to the IMD, a cold wave will hit Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Chandigarh starting on Sunday, while a severe cold wave may be experienced in western and eastern Rajasthan for the next five days.
