Even though Odisha’s minimum temperatures (nighttime temperatures) fell by 2°C to 3°C over the course of the previous day, dense fog covered many areas of the state on Wednesday morning, making it difficult for cars to travel. Visibility was as low as 50 meters. As the cold wave persists, the weather bureau issued a yellow caution for “very dense fog” in a few locations in Odisha.
It is stated that the state’s frigid northwesterly winds are to blame for the rise in the minimum temperature. The lowest temperature ever recorded in Phulbani, Odisha, was 5°C.
As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the districts of Kalahandi, Sundargarh, Koraput, and Mayurbhanj saw dense fog in the morning. There was shallow to moderate fog throughout the majority of Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Cuttack, Angul, Devgarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Kalahandi, and Rayagada.
According to the weather office, the current circumstances are expected to persist for the next few days, with fog predicted to cover numerous areas of Odisha.
Meanwhile, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has instructed the Transport department and police to take the appropriate actions regarding the movement of cars in light of the fact that fog greatly limits visibility and increases the likelihood of accidents. This directive was sent in a letter to the district Collectors. As a result, it has been suggested that the police and the Transport Department maintain a close eye on the accident-prone areas.
According to the IMD’s forecast, the state will see dry weather for the next six days.
