The health ministry said on Thursday that there was a 702 case increase in COVID-19 cases in India in a single day, bringing the total number of active cases to 4,097.
The ministry’s data updated at 8 am shows that six fresh fatalities were reported in a span of 24 hours, two from Maharashtra and one each from Karanataka, Kerala, West Bengal, and Delhi.
As of December 22, 752 additional cases had been reported nationwide.
By December 5, the number of cases per day had reduced to double digits, but cold weather and the appearance of a new strain had caused the cases to rise once more.
At the peak of the epidemic, which started in early 2020 and has resulted in over 4.5 crore infections and over 5.3 lakh deaths in around four years nationwide, the daily figures were expressed in lakhs.
According to the ministry’s website, nearly 4.4 crore people have recovered from the infection, meaning that the country’s recovery rate is 98.81 percent. As per the website, the nation has administered 220.67 crore doses of the Covid vaccination so far.
