COVID-19 Updates: India records 2,994 new Covid cases, nine deaths in last 24 hours

According to data from the Union Health Ministry, India recorded 2,994 new COVID-19 infections on Saturday, bringing the total number of active cases to 16,354. With the new infections, India’s Covid-19 infection total now stands at 4.47 crore. Meanwhile, the death toll rose to 5,30,876 with nine deaths, including two each from Delhi, Karnataka, and Punjab, one from Gujarat, and two reconciled by Kerala.

Meanwhile, according to state health department officials, the majority of Covid patients admitted to Delhi hospitals are the elderly or those with comorbid conditions. According to a state health department official, the majority of patients are over 60 and have issues such as cardiac disease, kidney disease, and diabetes.“These include patients admitted to hospital after getting infected with Covid and also those who were already admitted due to other health issues and later developed Covid,” the official added.
