Cuttack MLA Sofia Firdous breaks silence, appeals to people to maintain peace
Following the recent clash in Cuttack, Sofia Firdous, a member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Barabati-Cuttack, expressed deep anguish over the incident and called for strict action against those responsible, while also appealing to the people to maintain peace and harmony in the millennium city.
Speaking to the media, Firdous remarked that the criminal mindset of a few miscreants had disrupted the city’s calm on the day of Maa Durga’s Bhasani, which has been celebrated in communal harmony for centuries.
“Six people have already been arrested. The police are identifying others involved using CCTV footage, mobile videos, and drone visuals. Those who tried to create unrest must be arrested immediately and punished severely,” Firdous stated.
She added that she has been in constant touch with the police administration and is ensuring that victims and their families receive full support.
“Cuttack’s peace and brotherhood are its identity. The city has celebrated Durga Puja peacefully for over 500 years, and we must preserve that unity. This incident is very unfortunate and painful. Strict action will be taken to send a message that there is no place for criminals in Cuttack,” she added.
Appealing for calm, Firdous urged residents to work together to restore normalcy.
“Building peace takes years; breaking it takes only a moment. Let’s protect Cuttack’s tradition of harmony and ensure such incidents never happen again,” she added.
