Bhubaneswar: Rainfall and strong winds are expected in several districts of Odisha as a result of Cyclone ‘Asani’ over the Bay of Bengal, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre here today.
“During the next 24 hours, the Cyclonic Storm is very likely to move northwestward and intensify further into a Severe Cyclonic Storm over the east central Bay of Bengal.” It is very likely to continue moving northwestwards until the evening of May 10th, when it will reach Westcentral and the adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal off the coasts of North Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. Following that, it is very likely to recurve north-northeastwards and move towards the Northwest Bay of Bengal off the coast of Odisha, according to the Meteorological Centre’s bulletin.
Rainfall Warning
10th May: Light to moderate rainfall is expected to begin on the 10th evening in many coastal Odisha districts, with heavy rain (7-11 cm) possible in one or two places in the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, and Puri.
11th May: Light to moderate rainfall is expected in many places across coastal Odisha, with heavy rain (7-11 cm) expected in one or two places across Ganjam, Khordha, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, and Cuttack.
12th May: Light to moderate rainfall is expected in many parts of coastal Odisha, with heavy rain (7-11 cm) possible in one or two places in Puri and Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore.districts.
Wind Warning: Strong winds of 40-50 kmph with gusts up to 60 kmph are expected along and off the Odisha coast on the 11th and 12th of May.
