Bhubaneswar: The impact of Cyclone ‘Asani’ over the Bay of Bengal is expected to be felt in nine Odisha districts beginning tomorrow.
According to the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Regional Meteorological Centre here, the nine districts (Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, and Balasore) are likely to receive heavy rainfall from the cyclonic storm between May 10 and 12.
Forecast and Warning for Rain:
10th May: Light to moderate rainfall is expected to begin on the 10th evening in many coastal Odisha districts, with heavy rain (7-11 cm) possible in one or two places in the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, and Puri.
11th May: Light to moderate rainfall is expected in many places across coastal Odisha, with heavy rain (7-11 cm) expected in one or two places across Ganjam, Khordha, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, and Cuttack.
12th May: Light to moderate rainfall is expected in many coastal Odisha districts, with heavy rain (7-11 cm) possible in one or two locations in Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, and Balasore.
Wind Warning: Stormy winds of 40-50 kmph with gusts up to 60 kmph are expected along and off the Odisha coast on the 11th and 12th of May.
The cyclone is expected to move northwestwards until the night of May 10th, reaching Westcentral and the adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal off the coasts of North Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. The IMD predicts that it will then recurve north-northeastwards and move towards the Northwest Bay of Bengal off the coast of Odisha.
According to the agency, it is unlikely to make landfall.
