As cyclone Biparjoy approaches, Gujarat’s Saurashtra and Kutch regions, as well as the neighbouring Pakistan beaches, are on high alert.
The cyclone is expected to make landfall on Thursday evening, bringing potentially damaging winds and heavy rain.
As a precaution, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will remove hoardings in dangerous areas and trim or chop down trees that may collapse owing to severe rain and wind.
Cyclone Biparjoy is expected to make landfall between Mandvi in Kutch, Gujarat, and Karachi, Pakistan, near the Jakhau port. The cyclone’s landfall is expected to produce high winds of 125-135 kmph with gusts up to 150 kmph, posing a significant hazard to the affected areas.
The continuing rescue operation is divided into two sections. The first phase is prioritizing the protection of people living within 0 to 5 kilometers of the shoreline. The second phase will concentrate on relocating those who live within 5 to 10 kilometers of the coast in order to ensure comprehensive evacuation measures.
