Kutch is still reeling from the effects of the severe cyclonic storm Biparjoy, which made landfall on Jakhau port on the Gujarat coast more than 12 hours ago. “IMD has predicted that gusting winds and rains will persist in Kutch at least till afternoon before cyclone crosses over to Rajasthan,” Devang Rathod, sub-divisional magistrate of Abdasa told media over phone from his office in Naliya, a village 22 km inland from Jakhau port. He added, “After the initial gusts and rain early on Thursday evening, there was a calm in Naliya for almost six hours between 9 pm Thursday and 3 AM Friday as the eye of the storm passed over the region. However, stormy winds returned with even higher wind speeds at around 3:30 AM and they continue to blow even now,” the SDM said at 7:24 am.

Heavy rain in Rajasthan’s Jalore, Barmer due to Cyclone Biparjoy
Officials reported heavy rain in several sections of Rajasthan’s Jalore and Barmer districts on Friday as a result of Cyclone Biparjoy, which proceeded towards the desert state after making landfall in Gujarat.

Strong winds of 60 to 70 km/h are forecast in the surrounding areas of Jaisalmer, Barmer, Jalore, and Jodhpur on Friday, and in the surrounding areas of Jodhpur, Udaipur, and Ajmer on Saturday.
To rescue people affected by the heavy rains, eight companies of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed in Jaipur, Kota, Bharatpur, Udaipur, Ajmer, Jodhpur, and Bikaner, and one company of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed in Kishangarh in Ajmer district.
In response to the “red” and “orange” alerts, local governments in the impacted districts have also made preparations, such as the installation of pumps and the deployment of civil defense and disaster management teams.

Around 1,100 villages and dozens of towns in Gujarat’s Saurashtra and Kutch regions were without power on Friday morning after Cyclone Biparjoy uprooted electrical poles, severed power conductors, and grounded power transformers while making landfall late Thursday night on Jakhau port.
On Friday morning, the cyclone continued to wreak havoc on the twin regions, delivering strong gusts and heavy rain.
According to the state-owned Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited (PGVCL), which distributes power in Saurashtra and Kutch regions, there was a blackout in 1,092 villages as of 8 a.m.
