Cyclone Biparjoy Updates June 15: As Cyclone Biparjoy made landfall in Gujarat on Thursday evening, strong winds of more than 100 kmph and heavy rains pounded the Kutch and Saurashtra areas. Damage been reported – At least three persons have been hurt as trees toppled in Gujarat’s Devbhoomi Dwarka area. Many trees and power poles were uprooted near the cities of Jakhau and Mandvi in the Kutch area, and tin sheets used in home construction were blown away. There have been no reports of fatality until 7 p.m., according to Gujarat Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi.
The Met Office has issued a warning for very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in the districts of Kutch, Devbhumi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Rajkot, Morbi, and Junagarh. During landfall, the cyclone will cause “astronomical tide” with a storm surge of 2-3 meters in height, inundating low-lying areas in Kutch, Devbhumi Dwarka, Porbandar, Jamnagar, and Morbi districts. The sea conditions are spectacular, with waves reaching 10 to 14 meters in height, according to the Met Office.

The Indian Railways cancelled 99 trains on Thursday evening due to the cyclonic storm “Biparjoy.” 39 trains were also terminated prematurely.

Speaking about the progress of the cyclonic storm IMD chief Dr M Mohapatra said: The cyclone is still 70 kilometers away and heading toward the coast. By midnight, the cyclone will have crossed the sea and will be onshore… The wind speed is set to reach its peak of 125 kmph and then begin to decrease.”

At least three persons were hurt after trees collapsed in Gujarat’s Devbhoomi Dwarka district as cyclone Biparjoy made landfall on the Kutch coast on Thursday evening, officials said.
Many trees and electricity poles were uprooted near the cities of Jakhau and Mandvi in the Kutch area, and tin sheets used in home construction were blown away. There had been no reports of fatality until 7 p.m., according to Gujarat Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi.
“Three persons have sustained injuries in Devbhoomi Dwarka district due to treefall and are being treated. Teams of Gujarat police, NDRF and Army are working in different parts of Dwarka to remove uprooted trees and electricity poles,” he added.
The cyclone made landfall at 4.30 p.m. and would be totally gone by midnight, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Heavy rain has been falling in Dwarka, Okha, Naliya, Bhuj, Porbandar, and Kandla along Gujarat’s beaches since Thursday morning. The coastline area had high winds of up to 50 kmph, according to the IMD.
