The cyclonic storm Dana over the east-central Bay of Bengal has intensified, moving north-west at 15 kmph over the last six hours. As a result, various districts in Odisha have begun to get rains, with more severe weather forecast in the coming days.
According to the most recent information from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) and thunderstorms with lightning are very likely to occur in isolated areas of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Puri, and Ganjam.
On October 24, the regional meteorological office issued red warnings for Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur districts. These districts are likely to get extremely heavy rains.
The weather office has issued an orange warning to Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Khurda and Puri on October 24. These districts are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Besides, a yellow warning has been issued to Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Boudh, Kandhamal and Ganjam districts. These districts are expected to receive heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm).
“Scattered heavy to very heavy falls (7 to 20cm) with isolated extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak”, read the IMD alert for October 25.
On Friday, the IMD issued an orange alert for Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara, and Jagatsinghpur districts. These districts are anticipated to get heavy to extremely heavy rainfall (7-20 cm).
Aside from that, the IMD predicted significant rainfall (7 to 11 cm) in isolated areas of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Khurda, and Puri on Friday.
For October 26, IMD’s prediction reads: “Heavy to very heavy rainfall(7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Sambalpur, Deogarh and heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Jharsuguda.”
